Another painting done from my shadow box. This time green granny smith apples. I paint these loose, vibrant and juicy apples set up in my shadow box. This allows me to manipulate the light, shadows and reflections adding for more interest. I try to lay down thick brushstrokes of oil paint and leave it on the canvas trying to use as few a brushstrokes as possible. My goal is to keep the loose appeal creating more of an abstract nature than a realistic painting. My favourite part is laying in the last touches of highlights to pop the apples.

Love the beautiful apples, Susan! Just curious - do you do an underlayer first & then paint these lovely paint strokes on top of that?
